MTRCB Summons Ryzza Mae Dizon Show and Eat Bulaga Due to the “Child-Unfriendly Scenes”

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has summoned GMA’s back-to-back shows The Ryzza Mae Show and Eat Bulaga regarding “alleged child-unfriendly scenes.”

On September 3, the government agency announced through its Twitter account that officials concerned with Eat Bulaga and The Ryzza Mae Show have been asked to attend a mandatory conference before the agency’s Ad Hoc Committee to be held this Thursday, September 5.

In a letter posted on its Twitter account, the MTRCB cited incidents in the two GMA-7 shows that will be investigated further:

The MTRCB Release the following statement regarding the summon to Ryzza Mae Show and Eat Bulaga:

The MTRCB called the programs Eat Bulaga and The Ryzza Mae Show to mandatory conference on 05 September 2013 for scenes allegedly insensitive and unfriendly to childre.

In Eat Bulaga’s 29 July 2013 episode, a host spat juice into the face of child actress-host Ryzza Mae Dizon. And during the 14 August 2013 episode of Ryzza Mae Show, a guest told the said child actress-host “landing bata ka” – to which the latter replied by pleading that she was just a child, and asking the said guest not to be harsh on her.

These scenes palpably violate the dignity of the child and have to be addressed by the show’s producer, TAPE, Inc., as well as GMA Channel 7 over which the said shows air.

The MTRCB hopes in the cooperation of all those concerned in finding out what caused these scenes, who are responsible therefor, and what immediate and concrete measures to be done so they do not happen again. In this connection, the MTRCB reiterates its serious and urgent concern for the welfare of children who are most vulnerable in media and entertainment.
